ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
Aiming to engage Gen-Z in Mexican American Civil Rights History, this program
combines the Civic Season Slice of History pizza party template with a history-themed
version of the traditional game of lotería (similar to bingo). Each card in the deck
features a historical figure, organization, or event relevant to Mexican American civil
rights history. As each card is called, the game host provides a brief description of the
person or event in the card. The winners of each round receive a prize, such as museum
merchandise, books, or accessories. To maximize participation by Gen-Z, we partnered
with a local college and its History and Mexican American Studies departments to host
the event on campus during the summer session.
