BARBARA JOHNS
Hello, I'm Barbara Johns. Born on March 6, 1935, in Virginia, I became known for
my pivotal role in the civil rights movement as a teenager. At 16 years old, I led a
student strike to protest the inadequate conditions of my segregated high
school, which eventually led to a lawsuit that became part of the landmark
Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case. Despite facing significant
opposition and adversity, I remained steadfast in my pursuit of justice and
equality. My actions inspired many others and contributed to the broader
struggle for civil rights in the United States.
